1. Overview
YouTube Screen Capture is a Chrome extension that lets users save the current frame from a YouTube video or Short as a PNG or JPEG image. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension accesses, how that information is used, and how it is protected.
2. Information Processed by the Extension
The extension processes the following information only as needed to provide its user-facing frame capture feature:
- The pixels of the current YouTube video frame, only when the user clicks the capture button.
- The YouTube video title and current playback time, only to create a useful local filename for the saved image.
- User-selected preferences: download folder name, PNG or JPEG format, JPEG quality, and whether Chrome should display the Save As dialog.
The extension does not collect names, email addresses, account credentials, payment information, health information, precise location, personal communications, or a history of websites visited.
3. How Information Is Used
The current video frame is processed locally in the user's browser to create the requested PNG or JPEG file. The video title and playback time are used locally to generate the filename. User preferences are used only to apply the selected download settings.
The extension's access is limited to YouTube pages at https://www.youtube.com/* and is used only to provide the frame capture feature described in the Chrome Web Store listing and the extension interface.
4. Local Processing and Data Transmission
Captured frames, video titles, playback times, and generated image files are not transmitted to AI17 or to any external server. The extension has no analytics, advertising, tracking, account system, or developer-operated backend.
Frame data is processed temporarily in browser memory and is discarded after the download is prepared. The generated image is saved to the location selected through Chrome's download system.
5. Settings Storage
The extension uses the Chrome Storage API to save the user's selected download preferences. Chrome may synchronize these preferences between browsers signed in to the same Chrome profile, depending on the user's Chrome Sync settings. AI17 does not receive or have access to these preferences.
Users can change or reset these preferences from the extension's settings page. Chrome's handling of synchronized browser data is governed by Google's applicable privacy policies and the user's Chrome settings.
6. Downloads and Retention
Downloaded screenshots remain on the user's device until the user moves or deletes them. AI17 does not retain copies of downloaded screenshots.
Temporary frame data and temporary download metadata are used only for the time required to create and start the requested download. The extension does not create a remote archive or history of captured frames.
7. Data Sharing and Sale
AI17 does not sell, rent, share, or transfer user data to third parties. User data is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
No AI17 employee or contractor has access to captured frames, video titles, settings, or downloaded files.
8. Permissions
The extension requests only the permissions required for its current functionality:
- storage: Saves the user's image format, JPEG quality, download folder name, and Save As preference.
- downloads: Saves the captured frame as a PNG or JPEG file using the filename and folder selected by the user.
- https://www.youtube.com/*: Adds the capture button to YouTube videos and Shorts and reads the current video frame only when the user requests a capture.
9. Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Any access to website content is limited to providing the extension's disclosed, user-facing frame capture feature. The extension does not use or transfer website content for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any unrelated purpose.
10. Security
The extension minimizes data access by processing captured frames locally and by limiting site access to YouTube. Because captured frames are not transmitted to AI17 or an external server, AI17 does not maintain a server-side copy that could be accessed or disclosed.
11. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the extension's functionality or data practices change. Any updated policy will be published at the same public URL with a revised effective date. Material changes to data practices will also be reflected in the Chrome Web Store disclosures and, where required, in the extension interface.
